What is the problem?

Even in 2017, women still make up the minority of senior leaders across sectors. Career interruptions due to family responsibility, the resulting lack of confidence, social expectations, and structural factors contribute to women dropping off the leadership pipeline around the time when they have children (PwC 2008, Fawcett Society 2016). Men often feel pressurised to be the breadwinner and when they take time out to care for their children they are often seen as less committed to their careers (Bain & Co 2016).
